Why is your name "The Real Group"?

Where did your name come from? Where there a lot of not so autentic groups back in the days? Or maybe a rival "Unreal Group"? :-) See my blog here. Best Kristoffer |

In those days there were basically no other groups around at all. With the exception of Swingle Singers and Kings' Singers. Our name was taken from "The Real Book". In our school there was a bulletin board where you posted messages to each other; to book rehearsals, to find student apartments etcetera. This was before the arrival of the internet... actually it was before the introduction of the desktop personal computer. Anyway, it became impractical to write the names of the other group members everytime we booked a rehearsal. So somebody wrote "The Real Group" on a bulletin board note... in the hope that the others would understand it was directed to them. ;-) Most of our songs that we sang in the beginning came from "The Real Book" - the classic "fake book" made by students at Berklee School Of Music. (for those of you who are unfamiliar with this milestone in music publishing, this was a book with jazz standards that was copied illegally to avoid copyright fees and make the collection of these songs into one book financially possible) The name "The Real Group" was just an internal joke the group members had, and we didn't suggest that this would be the actual group name. Until when we had our first gig and somebody put "the Real Group" on the poster. I don't think we were perfectly comfortable with this name in the beginning. Not until when we chose to see it as "the voice is the Real thing". ______________________ |

Was there any other group title candidate at that time? "The voice is the real thing" is also what I've perceived from your music. |

no, we never came up with any other name for our group. As I remember. ______________________ |

I remember trying pretty hard though...whatever that tells you about us...the fact that we stayed with "The Real Group" Haha!! I have the same feeling as Peder that there is some sort of "realness" in just using the voice. But that was something that came up later when we realized we couldn“t come up with a better name. As far as I remember. |
